About the Item
This one-of-a-kind necklace features an enamel frog pin, probably made in the early 1980s. Eytan Brandes converted it to a necklace, stringing pearls and a chain from either end of Mister Frog's branch.
The pearls are small dyed freshwater baroques-- nothing special but we just loved the color -- golden river rocks to match our golden frog.
The frog has small, brilliant cut natural diamond eyes, an adorable open mouth, and a brightly enameled body.
The frog is stamped "18K" and has a maker's mark we haven't been able to identify (an "L" inside of a drop shape).
The chain is an Italian 2mm tinsel link -- very dense and well-made -- with a spring ring closure. We think this chain is a little older than the frog -- maybe 1970s. It's 18 karat gold and is stamped on the clasp and chain tag.
Note that there is some minor wear to the enamel on the frog's extremities. There's also a dot, right on his snout, which we thought was his nose, but which appears to be a small pit.

What to do with a little 14 karat frog that's been hopping around the store for so long no one remembers where he came from?
Answer? Attach him to the kind of gemstone a frog would love: a big drop-shaped faceted cabochon of moss agate. This is a type of quartz with a white or clear body color, but shot through with fern-link green inclusions (mostly manganese and something called hornblende, the description of which is so geoscience-y that we just don't want to go there).
The chubby little frog has diamond eyes (about 0.01 carats each) and that sweetly contented expression that makes frogs so lovable, despite the fact they live in swamps and don't really seem to be all that sociable toward humans. We can dream, can't we?
The stone is wrapped in a 14 karat gold frame made from a hand-sculpted wax mold by Eytan Brandes.
