About the Item

About the Ancient Coin The obverse side of the pendant depicts Philip the Arab, the Emperor of Rome from 244 to 249 AD. During his reign, which coincided with the celebration of the Roman millennium, his slavish spending increased taxes, and overwhelming pressure from barbarian invaders led to his eventual betrayal by Trajan Decius, in whom he had placed his trust. The reverse side of the pendant depicts Salus, the Roman goddess of health, wealth, and prosperity and one of the oldest goddesses of the Roman pantheon, feeding a snake. Initially worshipped by a cult that came to span the whole of Italy, she was later invoked along with Apollo in ceremonies held to protect the entire Roman state. She is often depicted holding a snake. The coin itself dates back to 244-249 AD and is housed in a custom-designed 9 carat gold pendant made from 100% recycled materials. A rose cut sapphire is set just below the bail. Approximate Size The length of the pendant is 45 millimetres (including the bail), and the width is 27 millimetres. The Pantheon Collection Zeus.
