About the Item

About the Ancient Coin The obverse side of the coin depicts Severus Alexander, the last Roman emperor of the Severan dynasty, who ruled from 222 until 235 AD. During times of peace, he brought great prosperity but was eventually assassinated following attempts to bring peace between the Roman Empire and Germanic tribes, leaving many within his military ranks feeling disaffected. The reverse side of the coin depicts Pax, the Roman goddess of peace and daughter of the gods Jupiter and Justice, holding a branch and sceptre. Worshipped during the reign of Emperor Augustus, her image was used to instil peace throughout the Roman Empire during years of civil war and unrest. She is often depicted as holding out an olive branch as an offering of peace. The coin itself dates to 222-235 AD and is set in a custom-designed 9 carat gold pendant made from completely recycled materials. A green emerald cabochon is set just below the bail.
