Georgian Portiguese Travel Pendant

About the Item

Proving that all beautiful jewelry can be other than gold or silver, this Georgian pendant of lacy openwork in a floral vine motif mimics the real thing made c. 1800, yet this is gilded metal. Texture is all here with smooth and non smooth surfaces. Copying fine pieces was common in the days of stage coach attacks by robbers. Beautiful jewelry was worn but it was made especially for traveling. The gold piece remained safely at home while the thieves made away, unknowingly with the copy. This piece of history would be worn on a worthy ribbon high at the neck. Light in weight as it is all open. Height: 2 1/2 inches high. 2 inches wide Weight 13.2 grams
