About the Item

Fabulous, multi-faceted jewel which may be worn as a pendant on a diamond Riviera necklace, a wide torque style necklace or suspended from a more delicate chain when turned 360 degrees, as a clip brooch, as a large stunning ring when clipped to a wide band, even as a hair ornament. Clip brooches of the Art Deco period were designed to be transformable, facilitating use in a variety of interesting ways. The asymmetrical swirl design suggests movement and complements the flow of high quality multi-cut diamonds and rubies. Circa 1935 A similar pair of diamond and ruby scroll clip brooches made for Cartier New York circa 1935 are illustrated in Cartier 1900-1939 by Judy Rudoe, page 281, illustration 223, Lindemann Collection, sold Christie's New York 12 April 1983, lot 291. Please note the similarity of gemstones in Cartier brooches - the same square cut rubies, baguette and Old European cut diamonds as in this piece. Diamonds G-H, VS, 47 Old European, 6 Baguette, 2 single cut, approximately 2.5 TCW Rubies: lively, square cut, 12, approximately 2.3 TCW, rich raspberry color, some slightly included, minor surface abrasions Tested for platinum 37mm length on the axis, 31mm straight length , 25mm wide Few clip brooches are suitable for use as ring ornaments, but in this piece the clip folds in such a way that the sharp points of the pins fold into the back and do not come in contact with the finger. A fun, innovative way to wear this beautiful jewel.

Art Deco Period Tutti Frutti Diamond Sapphire Carved Ruby Platinum Ring
Located in New York, NY
Beautiful, unusual Art Deco period Tutti Frutti diamond, cabochon sapphire, carved ruby ring. Circa 1920 Designed as a diamond basket laden with cabochon sapphire fruit and carved ruby foliage. The basket centers a 1.2 carat marquise shaped diamond above an emerald cut .60 carat diamond, flanked by a pair of Old European cut collet set diamonds, .30 TCW, with 8 single cut diamonds composing the body of the basket and 4 collet set Old Mine diamonds interspersed with the sapphires and ruby gemstones. Tutti Frutti Art Deco rings are exceedingly rare, most creations were designed in the form of brooches. A fruit bowl brooch designed by Charles Jacqueau and made by Picq for Cartier, features similar round cabochon gemstones to the pair of sapphires in this ring. Interestingly, this Cartier brooch was sold to Princesse de Polignac, bought back into stock and subsequently resold the very same day to Grand Duke Paul of Russia, illustrated in Cartier 1900...
