- 19th Century Grand Tour Souvenirs Palais Royale Gold & Ebony NecessaireLocated in London, GBEarly 19th Century Grand Tour Souvenirs Palais Royale French Empire Ebonized Fragrance Necessaire with Gold Gilt Bottles & A Sèvres Panel This is truly an important and stunning piece of Objet d'art. This Sèvres style porcelain necessaire/fragrance box dates back to the early 1800s Palais Royale French Empire of Napolean Bonapart I. This would most certainly adorn the highest nobility and aristocrats. In the mid-1800s, the best souvenirs from Paris were found in the boutiques of the famed Palais Royale of Paris, the old palace of Cardinal Richelieu. The boutiques lined the promenade of the central gardens, and the area was host to Royals, dignitaries, and the posh societies of the time. The treasures from the Palais Royale remain today some of the most sought-after antiques to be found. The production of perfumery articles became an industry in the nineteenth century when a new champion emerged, Napoleon Bonaparte, who had a standing order with his perfumer for 50 bottles of cologne a month. In the 18th Century, porcelain was one of the most highly prized commodities in the world. In the 19th Century, the Sèvres factory was well-known for its brilliant bleu céleste ground colour. Sèvres gilding is often finely worked or ‘tooled’ with subtle patterns and has a light touch that is very distinctive. This is a superb example of the 1800s; a gorgeous Palais Royale Sèvres porcelain ebonized wood fragrance box/necessaire, finely crafted with two original blue Opaline scent bottles...Category

- Rare Antique Pocket Key Watch French 1800s with Painted Enamel DialLocated in London, GBRare Antique Pocket Key Watch French 1800s with Painted Enamel Dial in Working Order An exceptional example of French craftwork estimated from the mid-1800s with delicate enamel painting on the dial and bespoke Roman numerals. Pocket watches have long been a token of style and refinement, even in today’s modern era. During the mid-1800s, this would have been a status symbol as manufacturing had increased so that it was more widely available. Everyone from businessmen to international travelers would have relied on a precise pocket watch to measure the train schedules, daily paper, and end of the work day. In this case, the unique painted enamel on the dial and custom Roman numerals would mean a man of means owned this watch. Instead of relying on a more standard manufactured piece, this would have been hand-finished, demonstrating more wealth. What makes this particular timepiece so rare is the polychrome decoration of a city on the water. When you look closely at the dial, you’ll find detailed decorations of a cartouche and flora motifs perfectly offsetting the silver casement. Both of the keys are attached to a metal chain, and the appearance of the monogrammed FB is evident on the cover metal. A French inscription on the interior reads: “Echappement a Cylindre Aiguilles Quatre Rubiz.” The keys refer to the critical winding and lock set for maintaining the watch. You can also see the makers mark numbered 9356 11509. ------------------------------ Condition Report: In worker order and high quality, considering it is an antique pocket watch. There are minor age-related marks on the silver casement and some fading that will be cleaned and polished before shipping. No damage to the enamel or hands. We service all pocket watches...Category

- Important Exquisite Rare Antique Hardstone Gold & Enamel Cameo BroochLocated in London, GBA high-quality gold hardstone cameo (Circa 1860) depicting a classical roman lady, probably a deity or Bacchante. The detail is magnificent, with intricately hand-carved hardstone coupled with fine gold wirework and beading. The blue and white ornate enamel decorative oval frame sets this Cameo apart from any we have ever seen. A truly stunning piece! Hardstone cameos are the epitome of cameo art, and their monetary value reflects this. The use of hardstones dates back to ancient Rome. Artisans in the late 18th century produced pieces with noble and powerful subjects, reflecting the revival of the art of classical Greece and Rome. By the time Queen Victoria ascended the throne in 1837, Cameos were characterized by romanticism and femininity and a revival of subjects from classical mythology. The passion for ancient history fuelled by archaeological discoveries and written accounts of the exploits of ancient civilizations made this period ripe for revivals of ancient jewellery styles. Many Cameos were carved in the neo-classical style popular in the late 1700s and early 1800s when taste in the arts echoed the subject matter and style of the Greek and Roman masters. Neo-classical Cameos...Category
