About the Item
Antique Victorian Late 19th Century circa 1885 Oil Painting By Albert Clark (1843-1928) depicting a hunter horse standing probably outside the stables and painted in the centre of the composition with the visible trees on the second plain. The artwork is painted with a warm colour palette, with yellow ochres tones, light green and contrasting brown. Visible signature lower right, signed in red: 'Albert Clark'.
Inscribed M.P to the mount of the frame and worn inscription below, were a few words can be guessed as 'Champion', 'Cup', 'Challenge'.
Albert Clark was born in the Clark family which many of the members were also painters. Born on 29 October 1843 in Hoxton, London to the animal painter James Clark (1812-1909) and his wife, Elizabeth.
Size including frame: 52cm x 42cm
Condition: Losses to the frame, crazing to the surface due to age, wear especially to the back of the painting. Please see the images for more details. Original and unique wooden frame with a history behind it.
