This original Elmar Seidler Art Deco is in superb condition and is an impeccable example of this design renegade's blazingly original creations. Consider: ther ASert Deco era is defined by aerodynamic lines, white metal, the chrome shine of diamonds, the black wink of onyx. But this ring follows no Art Deco trends. And if you are the type of person who blazes their own path, this ring may well be your spiritual mate. You name the goldsmithing technique and it's here. It is a work of fastidious, luxurious, in-humanly patient artwork that has survived for the last near-century in relatively pristine form. This tells us something: This tells us that this ring has simply blown people away for a century, so they've been careful with it. The piece is composed of high-karat gold (at least 18K) that has been intricately and meticulously worked by the genius of Seidler to create a ring that defies categorization. Small geometric forms adorn the face of the ring, granulation can be found on the shoulders; applied scrollwork adorns the top of the ring. Were the ring merely this stunning work of goldsmithing it would be incredibly impressive. But Seidler has set a 5.5mm cultured pearl in the center of the ring, where it is surrounded by four 4mm blue sapphires, four 2mm rubies and four 2.3mm old-mine diamonds, each residing in its own detailed collet-setting. All the gemstones are natural and high-quality. A pair of 4mm x 3.5mm sapphires adorn the shoulders. This ring was created between 1930 and 1940 and is a textbook-perfect example of his exquisite work. An inspiring and genuinely amazing piece of art. Elmar Seidler pieces almost never enter the market. Currently a size 5 ½, this ring could be resized by your local jeweler. About Elmar Seidler: In the early 1920s. Elmar Seidler learned the craft of goldsmithing from the renowned Bavarian jeweler, Karl Rothmüller, to whom he served as an apprentice. Rothmüller was enormously successful, creating important and magnificent Art Nouveau jewels. By the early 1930s, Elmar Seidler was a master jeweler himself and he opened his own shop. Art Deco was the design aesthetic of the day but Seidler did not follow design trends. His jewelry reflected nothing of the Art Deco movement. Instead of looking forward to an aerodynamic, streamlined future, Seidler's work seemed to look back. Way back: ancient Greece, ancient Rome.
