About the Item

I'm pleased to offer this particularly lovely 18K gold and platinum no heat blue sapphire and old cut diamond ring, that comes with its AGL prestige gemstone report. Total estimated gem carat weight in the ring is estimated at approximately 3.89 carats. The bezel-set cushion cut blue sapphire has glorious deep royal blue color that is made extra special by the fact it shows no signs of having been heated. Measuring approximately 8 x 6.2 x 4.47 mm, it is estimated to weigh 1.95 carats. It remains in very good condition, with only very light wear seen with magnification, mostly at its girdle (the outer edge). AGL has determined it was likely mined in Thailand. (please note that your screen may display the sapphire's color differently than mine; any colored spots on the stone are just reflections) Ten super fiery old mine cut diamonds create the perfect surround for this marvelous sapphire, with another old cut diamond bezel-set at each shoulder. Bright and brilliant, these old mine cuts have all the fire I look for in antique diamonds - along with open culets and wonderful character. I estimate their combined total carat weight to be approximately 1.94 carats, as best as I can measure them while set. They have good color and clarity; eye-clean, I see a few inclusions and imperfections under magnification. Very elegant on the hand, the face measures approximately 16.7 x 16.03 mm and has a comfortable rise off the finger of approximately 4.48 mm. The milgrain remains nice and crisp. Still substantial, the gold band is in very good condition with no signs of having been sized in the past and with no hallmarks. On my scale the finished weight of the ring is 4.97 grams. Currently a size US 6.5, the ring may be sized up or down within reason by a good jeweler. If it is sized up more than a bit, I would recommend adding gold at the back to keep the band nice and sturdy. Sapphires that have not been heated are quite scarce - I think this gem is so beautiful as it almost seems to have "blue fire" that shows when the stone is moved in certain lights. Add fiery old diamonds and beautiful proportions and this is one of my favorite finds.
