Abstract Candle Holder Jorma Laine Turun Hopea Finland 7pcs. Brass
Located in Orimattila, FI
Abstract Candle holder Jorma Laine Turun Hopea Finland 7pcs. Very special Candlesticks. Hard to find these anywhere anymore. Jorma Laine (1930-2002) was a Finnish jewelry designer, whose work in bronze and silver (more seldom gold) is easily recognizable. He developed a style of his own, very modernistic and often abstract, throughout the 60’s and 70’s. He was born on the 10th of July 1930, as the only son to his working class parents. Already at a young age he was gifted and spent most of his time drawing. After primary school, he attended the renowned art college Turun Piirustuskoulu (Turku Art School). During his illustrious career, he had his own company, Silver-Laine, but is perhaps best known for the designs he did for Turun Hopea. He also designed silver jewelry for Kultateollisuus. Later on, after a successful career in jewelry design, he retired to his cabin in the forest where he led a hermitlike life until his death by heart attack on the 27th of December 2002, 72 years old. Jorma Laine was during the 1960s and 1970s one of the foremost jewellery designers who created his own field within Finnish jewellery with his unique designs. Laine's jewellery can be perceived as stories about nature and its creatures and the human and different cultures. Laine graduated from Suomen Kultasepät Oy's (later Kultateollisuus) private goldsmith school in Turku in 1950 and worked for the firm until the mid-1950s, after which he started working for Kultasepät Salovaara in Turku. 1963 Laine returned to Kultateollisuus as its chief designer and worked there until 1969. During this period Laine founded his own firm and workshop Lai-For Koru. In 1972 Laine moved over to Turun Hopea as their chief designer and worked there until his retirement in 1985. Nature and works of art greatly inspired laine. He was especially fascinated by South and Central American works of art, cave paintings and the décor on Sami hand drums...

2010s Candleholders and Candelabra

Antique and Vintage Candleholders and Candelabra

Antique and vintage silver candleholders and candelabra serve as decorative pieces and elegant sources of illumination in any dining room.

A candleholder can come as an individual piece or in a set. These objects vary in size and shape depending on the candles they are designed to hold as well as the era in which they were made. A candelabra is a more ornate and larger version of a candleholder.

Candleholder sets and candelabra can essentially serve as tabletop chandeliers. Adding these objects to your dining table can help establish an atmosphere and an air of elegance any time you gather with close friends or family.

Some of the earliest candleholders were made of clay, but by the 17th century, they were mostly made of silver. English silver made between 1660, when Charles II was restored to the throne — which evidently led to an upsurge in demand for items produced with the material domestically — and 1840, shortly after Queen Victoria came to power, is particularly popular with collectors. From this rich, 180-year period we saw examples of two-handled cups with squat bodies embossed and chased with foliage and animals, toilet services, beer tankards with flat-domed lids, wine cups on simple baluster stems, columnar candlesticks and more.

Later brass, copper and other warm metals gave candelabra a warm glow. Candleholders and candelabra have also been made from glass, crystal, ceramic and iron.

Candleholders and candelabra come in a variety of styles. As candelabra have various arms extending from the main stem, these components can range from two to six depending on size, period and style.

From antique examples to contemporary designs, browse a range of antique and vintage silver candleholders and candelabra variations on 1stDibs.
