Danish Modern Jorgen Peter Vang Turquoise, Pearl and Gold Torque , Circa 1960

The neckpieces is marked for VANG, 14K gold - the medium in which most Nordic jewelers of the time worked - and Denmark. Jorgen Peter Vang was born in Denmark in 1943. (D.2010) He apprenticed with Georg Jensen and graduated as a silversmith in 1964 from the institute for precious metal at the Goldsmith School in Copenhagen. Thereafter, he opened his workshop in Copenhagen and worked independently, creating unique , collectible modernist designs in silver and gold until 2003. Mahnaz Collection...

Egyptian Revival King Tut Khepri Scarab Necklace 18Kt Gold with Carved Gemstones
Located in Miami, FL
An Egyptian revival king Tut Khepri Scarab necklace Beautiful colorful piece made with Egyptian motifs from the ancient kingdom of the Pharaohs. The dominant part is the figure of the sacred scarab with the feathers of the god Khepri flanked by two minor scarabs and two lotus flower symbols. This magnifique piece has been carefully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with high polished finish and accented with applications of enamel, fitted with a lobster security lock. Khepri, is the god of sunrise connected to the scarab beetle. Young dung beetles, having been laid as eggs within the dung ball, emerge from it fully formed and thus were considered to have been created from nothingness. Egyptians believed that each day the sun was also reborn or created from nothing. In the same way that the beetle pushes large balls of dung along the ground, Khepri moved the newly-born sun across the sky. Khepri was a solar deity and thus connected to the rising sun and the mythical creation of the world. The god and the scarab beetle represent creation and rebirth. Scarab originated in Ancient Egypt. A scarab is shaped like a dung beetle. There is a head, wing case, and legs. It is sometimes rounded and sometimes flat. The scarab was associated with the god Khepri who was the god or rebirth, creation, and the sun. Dung beetles were the earthly personification of Khepri as they would lay their eggs in balls of dung and then roll the dung balls all around until the eggs hatched. Early hieroglyphics depict Khepri as a scarab holding up the sun. There were hundreds of memorial scarabs created to memorialize Amenhotep III’s deeds. These included the bull hunt scarab which symbolizes strength and victory over chaos. Later, around 2000 BCE the scarab was used in jewelry and as seals. The amulets were worn as protection against the dangers of this world and the afterlife. The scarab represented the sun god Ra that rolled across the sky each day. Between the 16th and 11th- century heart scarabs...

Mid Century 1960 Mughal Tutti Frutti Cocktail Ring 18Kt Gold with 33.68 Cts Gems
Located in Miami, FL
Tutti-Frutti gem set cocktail ring. Fabulous domed colorful piece, created in Italy with the popular Mughal tutti-frutti patterns, back in the 1960's. This gorgeous oversized cocktail ring has been carefully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats, with dotted and and twisted wires. The design resemble a royal crown and is completely mounted with a great selection of colorful natural gemstones, described as follow; On top, with an oval cabochon cut (17 x 14 x 11mm) of a green emerald of 19.59 carats. At the sides, with four pear faceted cut (4 x 5 x 3mm) of red rubies, 1.72 carats. Twelve pear faceted cut (4 x 6 x 3mm) of blue sapphires, 6.24 carats. Thirty mixed round cabochon cut (2-4mm) of blue turquoises, 6.13 carats. Has a total weight of 29.7 Grams and the actual size is 6, sizeable. The top view measurements are 27 mm by 22mm (1.06 x 0.87 Inches) and raise 22mm over the finger. History: The first Tutti Frutti piece was designed in 1901 by Pierre Cartier. It was a necklace commissioned by queen Alexandra to be worn with three Indian gowns she received as a gift. The designs are considered the perfect mix of east and west because they are made up of brightly colored gemstones (like sapphires, rubies and emeralds) carved using Indian techniques and set in French platinum and diamond mountings. The style became extremely popular during the 1920's, but it wasn't christened the 'Tutti Frutti' until1970. Mughal jewelry. Five centuries ago, India was under the rule and influence of the Mughal dynasty. The Mughal royalty were connoisseurs of architecture, arts, food, clothing and of course, jewelry. During the Mughal rule, jewelry-making was given utmost importance. This art gave birth to unique jewelry pieces studded with chunky gemstones and enameled with motif designs. Royal family members and people of high rank proudly displayed such jewelry all over their bodies, from jeweled turbans and head-jewelry to thick-set toe rings. The Mughal emperors wore silk turbans sequined with decorative, drooping feather-like ornaments. These turban ornaments...

Vintage and Antique Turquoise Jewelry

The thought of vintage and antique turquoise jewelry often conjures up images of striking Navajo bracelets and necklaces worn with a denim shirt and cowboy boots. This all-American look has been celebrated by fashion designers like Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger on their runways and in ad campaigns. In the October 2016 issue of Vogue magazine, Tom Ford said he only wears turquoise jewelry at his Santa Fe ranch. So what is it about this gorgeous blue-green stone that makes us wish that we were born in December?

It’s not surprising that turquoise is abundant in New Mexico and Arizona because, according to the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), it needs to be in “dry and barren regions where acidic, copper-rich groundwater seeps downward and reacts with minerals that contain phosphorus and aluminum.

Turquoise is not found in a single crystal but is a combination of microcrystals. Its appearance, waxy and opaque, is attributed to its structure and composition. “It’s an aggregate of microscopic crystals that form a solid mass. If the crystals are packed closely together, the material is less porous, so it has a finer texture. Fine-textured turquoise has an attractive, waxy luster when it’s polished. Turquoise with a less-dense crystal structure has higher porosity and coarser texture, resulting in a dull luster when it’s polished,” notes the GIA. Since no one wants to set a dull piece of turquoise, porous turquoise is often treated to make the stone more attractive.

In the United States, there have been discoveries of turquoise from 200 B.C. It is not just loose turquoise stones that have been found, but entire suites of jewelry from prehistoric times. In the late 19th-century, the Navajo Indians, who learned silversmithing from the Spanish, started to make beads out of turquoise and eventually combined it with silver around the 1880s. Initially this jewelry was for ceremonial purposes, but it became fashionable once the tourism in the Southwest picked up in the beginning of the 20th century.
