OWNED & WORN BY RED SKELTON - 1958 Omega Vintage Mens Ultra Thin Watch - 18K White Gold
Today's auction showcases this exclusive mens Omega watch crafted from 18K white gold that was owned and worn by Emmy and Golden Globe winning and Television Hall of Fame comedian Red Skelton. It could be very well-worn by a woman as well.
It is part of our Celebrity Collection of watches that has been featured in GQ, Revolution Watch, Europa Star, JCK, Hampton's Magazine, Gotham Magazine, Vegas Magazine, Silicon Valley magazine and my others. eBay just recently partnered with us for an exclusive, special sale for seven of the watches.
It is a striking piece fully custom decorated for Mr. Skelton in a distinctive herringbone pattern that carries over into the 18K white gold Italian made bracelet he had integrated into it. Crafted by Omega in 18K white gold it cannot be missed on the wrist.
Its thin case serves as a fitting housing for the very fine ultra-slim Omega 540 movement that powers the watch and once again showcases Mr. Skelton's strong preference for ultra-thin watches.
A truly very rare caliber, this is the first Omega watch we've ever owned with a caliber 540 out of the approx. 1,000 vintage Omegas that we've owned in our years. Masterfully designed, it measures a mere 2mm thick without the dial - less than the thickness of a US half-dollar! Despite its small size, it sacrifices nothing in performance.
Omega's technical guide about the movement from March 1958 states, "This movement (only 2 mm high without dial) is indeed one of the thinnest watches available today. Having the quality of interchangeability usually associated with our watches, servicing presents none of the difficulties that might be expected from so thin a movement. Combining elegance with precision, models incorporating this movement form a collection of great distinction."
This watch was not a "safe queen," and while still in pleasing condition was clearly worn by Mr. Skelton. Think of the special events this watch has taken part in!
We have not polished the watch, we left it just as Mr. Skelton last used it. The only overhauling we did was to the inside of the watch to make it ready for immediate enjoyment. A light polish could make the watch present as mint.
One of our Master Watchmakers has disassembled it down to its last screw and cleaned and oiled it making it ready for immediate enjoyment ($695 value). It is running very strong and true.

It’s a celebrated part of Omega lore that the brand’s Speedmaster Professional Chronograph was the first watch to make a lunar landing. But the universal love for vintage Omega watches isn't confined to astronomers, and there’s more to the company’s heritage than the story of the Moonwatch.
The house’s origins date to 1848, when Swiss watchmaker Louis Brandt first set up shop. His sons Louis-Paul and César took over after his death, and in 1894, the pair developed an intriguing new movement.
Not only was it highly accurate, but every part was replaceable, making it easy for any professional to service. The Brandts called their movement the Omega, and as its popularity spread, they changed their company’s name to that of its flagship product.
In 1917, the British Royal Flying Corps designated Omega as an official supplier, and during World War II it became the principal watch supplier for the British forces and their allies. These commissions further strengthened Omega’s commitment to ensuring its products’ reliability under extreme conditions. In 1948, it launched the versatile Seamaster. Developed as a dive watch, the Seamaster proved its durability at high altitudes and freezing temperatures, as well. (Here is the 1stDibs guide to spotting a fake Omega Seamaster.)
Thanks in part to its rugged reputation and Omega’s links to the British military, it became James Bond’s watch of choice in 1995, appearing in GoldenEye and every succeeding Bond movie; it returned in 2021’s No Time to Die. Nevertheless, the most famous Omega by far is the Speedmaster, introduced in 1957. The first chronograph to display its tachymeter scale on the bezel instead of the dial for easier readability, it was quickly adopted by engineers and scientists.
Worn by Buzz Aldrin during the 1969 Apollo 11 lunar mission, it’s the only watch certified by NASA for extravehicular activity (space walks) — and, as far as we know, the only one approved by the Russian space agency, too.

Today's offering showcases this classic vintage ladies Enicar watch owned and worn by the late Dame Olivia Newton-John.
Oliva Newton-John is best known as leading lady Sandy who starred alongside Hollywood legend John Travolta in Grease, one of the most popular movies of all time.
Its enormous popularity has endured through the years - when it was re-released for its 20th anniversary in 1998 it ranked as the second highest-grossing film behind Titanic in its opening weekend. Its soundtrack is also one of the most successful in history, with the single "You're the One That I Want", with John Travolta, one of the best selling singles of all time.
Besides achieving legendary status as an actress, she is an amazingly accomplished singer. She is a four-time Grammy award winner who has amassed five number-one and ten other top ten Billboard Hot 100 singles, and two number-one Billboard 200 solo albums. We have not cleaned or polished the watch or done anything to the outside of it - we left it just as we acquired it. Its crystal is quite scratched from significant use. The only work we have done on the watch is one of our Master Watchmakers has disassembled the movement inside down to the last screw and fully serviced it making it ready for immediate enjoyment and for use for many years to come ($595 value). It is running extremely strong and true, keeping time on par with a brand new high-grade Swiss watch.
