Designed at the height of the firm’s creations just prior to the world wars, the present timepiece is carefully set with approximately 238 well matched and carefully placed Diamond stones exhibiting three different diamond cuts: Marquis, Emerald baguette & Round Cut stone cuts. Additionally, the present example is designed in one of the most iconic period designs known as the Egyptian revival style and boasts nearly 14 carats in total with all stones carefully matched throughout the exceptional open work diamond set bracelet concept. During this timeframe, Longines was considered one of the finest Swiss manufacturers of their time in their ability to produce precision timing instruments which ultimately led to the firms being selected to provide assistance to the military in the world wars for instruments in aviation and other elements and shortly after with racing precision decades later. Additionally, interesting is that in the Art Deco timeframe, it was considered rude to check the time in the company of others. As a result some of the most magnificent diamond set bracelet timepiece concepts were commissioned with the finest watchmaking to meet the new societal demands of the period: a bracelet watch that appeared more like a high fashion diamond set at first glance by onlookers, but that also gave its user the functional use of a timepiece to the check the time without appearing rude in the company of others. As diamond set bracelets are very fine and narrow as the present example is designed, immense detail and special attention to every element of the concept was required as the need to produce a dial and movement small enough to fit into a beautiful bracelet was imperative as well as one that would not take away from the overall concept making their commissions typically for societal elites and only very important of the period as so much workmanship was needed with each concept. The present bracelet watch concept which is also notably interesting as it is designed in Egyptian Revival style is considered one of the most sought after and iconic designs style concepts of the Art Deco period. With the discovery in Egypt of King Tutankhamen’s tomb in the early 1920s, “Egyptomania” swept society’s fashion and interests and high fashion design firms used the artifacts found as a source of inspiration as they incorporated similar geometric shapes and patterns in textiles, clothing, and especially jewelry and timepieces as this present example exhibits. On the case, there are marquis cut stones designed in graduated shapes with a mixed combination of round cut diamonds and baguettes which all lend itself because of the sharp angles and patterns of shapes the marquis cut diamonds give way to throughout as a very Egyptian revival style motif. In addition, the fully articulated open work large round cut and smaller round mixture with baguette cut diamond accents further demonstrate the Egyptian Revival concept as it is illustrated throughout the piece. Finally, the timepiece is also designed with a beautifully hand painted enamel dial and further hand engraved on the profile of the case with beautiful special attention to detail with workmanship found in this period of fillagree engravings along where diamonds could not be set so no element of the timepiece is left untouched and for a finishing touch the timepiece is accented with a noticeably present emerald cabochon also a testament to just how much attention went into its creation. Condition The bracelet watch is also in complete perfect working condition and has been recently serviced and tested for accuracy by our in-house technicians. No missing stones to the outer case with all original stones present and well matched. Bold, sharp dial numerals on dial which indicate excellent preservation & very little patina to the metal underside as a result of age indicating authentic age as well as very little use by its original owner given its nearly 100 year age.
