About the Item
Landscape Memories-Sunlit Series captures the summer Dahlias under the morning warm glow in her herbaceous border.
This painting is Shizico’s artistic exploration with and around the colour of yellow, with her unique approach to paintings, erasing, rewriting, and destroying the landscape through bold strokes of gold leaf on the top layers; she works on the concept of bringing distraction to creation.
In this painting, Shizico plays with the spaces between the landscape, the sky and gold-gilded foliage from her garden, creating a harmonious textures and colours, seamlessly blending her signature Japanese woodblock print-esque visual language into 21st century.
Gold leaf, one of Shizico's signature materials, symbolises not only the light and warmth of the season but also serves as a device for her to explore space and time in a two-dimensional painterly space.
With strokes of Gold, Oil, Gesso, and Acrylic, Shizico orchestrates a visual symphony of abstract expression in this on-going series [Landscape Memories], where she explored all sorts of mediums of yellow, with gold leaf gilding brushstrokes layered over the landscape and sky-scape around her every day.
The [Sunlit Series] is a profound exploration of captivating yellow/gold leaf.
Yellow is a colour she believes has the healing power for those afflicted by grief.
The golden hues dialogue with the layers of landscape in the background. The interplay of these contrasting elements adds another layer of fascination.
The result is a breath-taking testimony to the profound connection between the materials, the subject (the deeper meaning of the landscape and the memories), and the artist-self ; exemplifies Shizico Yi's artistic vision, which is ever-evolving and experimenting.

Dr. Shizico Yi, the UK artist working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns about the loss, repetition, the everyday subject and memories . With design and film background, Shizico combines her interests making installation projects which relate to artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.
Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angels. USA.

Shizico Yi's work aims to explore artistic obsession through repetitive documentation of the domestic and the everyday.
