Immaculate Sigh of Stars
By Adam Shaw
Located in Napa, CA
Oil on Canvas "The most important thing any art can offer is a bridge to a deeper experience of oneself. The experience of art occurs outside of time —both its making and its effect— despite the necessary parenthesis of its historic moment. This is the framework from which my efforts proceed.” New York City-born painter Adam Shaw’s vivid, intricate paintings which are woven with literary allusions and scientific formulae, provide an impressively accurate snapshot of the artist’s rich and diverse life experience. Shaw’s large paintings bring to life intensely-colored abstract shapes by layering his paintings with words...

Migrants
By Willard Dixon
Located in Burlingame, CA
'Migrants' by Willard Dixon. These paintings are generally taken from small black and white newspaper photos from Willard Dixon’s daily reading of the news. He changes the images somewhat by cropping them, taking things out, adding color, etc. But the image is definitely something seen originally by someone else. “I must say”, says Dixon, “I have rather strong feelings about these images myself. I see them at least in part as an homage to the intrepid photographers on the front lines who are telling truth to the world about what’s actually going on out there.” Willard Dixon Born: Kansas City MO, 1942 Education: Art Students League, New York, NY Cornell University Brooklyn Museum School San Francisco Art Institute, M.F.A. 1969 Awards and Commissions N.E.A. White Oak, Abstract Painting
By Sheila Grabarsky
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
I was excited with the discovery of forms that evolved to compose a cohesive composition, feeling as if under the shade of an old oak to me.

About the Artist
Sheila Grabarsky is known for her bold, gestural nature scenes. Her fluid paintings have been compared to those of Vasily Kandinsky, the Russian painter and art theorist referred to as the father of abstraction. And, like Kandinsky, the essence of inner beauty and the potency of the human spirit are key factors in her art. Sheila's art carries an air of spontaneity, however, the work develops in many layers and takes a long time to come together. "I search for evolving forms within the composition, look for 'eye flow' and use my color intuition," she explains. "This is the mystery I love about abstraction - always evolving and birthing itself." Sheila draws energy and inspiration from living near water, and says she rarely travels because she does not like to be away from painting. In her studio, she is usually accompanied by three animal friends and an eclectic playlist of Janis Joplin, blues, reggae and classical. In 2016, Sheila's art was featured in the movie American Pastoral, starring Ewan McGregor and Dakota Fanning.

One in the Hand
By Myron Stephens
Located in Burlingame, CA
In this cinema noir series of original oil and acrylic painting on wood panels, Myron Stephens realistically recreates images of people and often mundane objects that are masterfully painted using a "tricks the eye" technique. The artist uses small brushes with oil and acrylic paint to create the witty, charming and unique works of art via his optical illusion way of painting. As with Stephen's other series' including urban scenes and "chalk board" paintings that draw from mid century ideas and film—Stephen's signature humor and unique perspective span the lot. This is a traditionally painted work of art with the "look" of chalk on board, but it is created entirely of oil paint and acrylic paint on panel. A delightful and highly collectable work of original art. Myron Stephens, 'One in the Hand...

Night Flight, Abstract Painting
By Janine Etherington
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
After a flight back and forth across the country, Janine's exploration in her studio started with a playful mixing of colors directly on the canvas. A shape emerged in that process that she chose to repeat and then incorporate with a series of glazes. Stepping back and looking at the result, the image reminded her of those hours spent moving through the clouds to finally find herself back home.

About the Artist
Janine’s abstract artworks are created with measured doses of both intuition and analysis. “My work develops as a series of calls and responses,” she says. She adds color, letting gravity pull the paint around. She then responds to the direction of the composition with additional marks, adding and subtracting. The incorporation of recognizable forms, specifically letters and numbers, indicates the influences of Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg on Janine’s work. Janine is also inspired by listening to jazz music. She is a musician herself, and plays in a local Zimbabwean marimba ensemble when she’s not painting.

By Anne Subercaseaux
Located in Burlingame, CA
Shades of dark cobalt blue and light blue with patterns are at play in Anne Subercaseaux's meticulously painted 'Reflections on Crossing XXXVIII', oil on canvas. Anne Subercaseaux finds substance in the insubstantial, in paintings that freeze the ephemeral patterns of reflection and shadow. In her muted, almost monochrome palettes, images seem familiar but still elusive. The precise silhouette of a bridge girder or a windblown branch moves into focus and out again, a fleeting glimpse from the corner of the eye...
