Japanese Lacquered Cabinet ‘Shodana’ from the Arashiyama Museum, 19th Century
Located in Milano, IT
The construction of this antique shodana is somehow different and richer than the traditional Japanese model: even if in fact there are the fundamental elements, which are a lower compartment closed by two sliding doors and three intermediate shelves, in this piece, there are many other closed parts, including two drawers. More, there are several lacquered parts decorated in superior-quality maki-e even in places that generally are left empty.
Panels are painted with gold lacquer with landscapes from the Genji monogatari; handles reproduce a sho, a rare antique musical instrument...

Chinese Qing Dynasty 19th Century Coffee Table with Carved Apron and Dark Patina
Located in Yonkers, NY
A Chinese Qing Dynasty period coffee table from the 19th century, with carved apron and scrolling feet. Created in China during the Qing Dynasty period, this low table, which could nowadays be used as a coffee table (the Chinese didn't used coffee tables in the 19th century), features a rectangular top with central board, sitting above a beautifully carved apron. This apron is adorned with a central calligraphic motif surrounded by scrolls, animals, foliage and geometric accents. Raised on four straight legs with scrolling feet, the table boasts a dark patina. We review all of our pieces and address issues we may find before they leave for your home; however, this is an antique piece, and as such it will keep its character and some imperfections, which is the quintessence of antique and vintage furniture. With its small proportions and nicely carved décor, this Chinese Qing Dynasty low table...

Tibetan Travelling Buddha Shrine
Located in Houston, TX
A large antique Tibetan Buddha shrine or prayer box (also known as Gau) which encases a painted terracotta Buddha figure, all wrapped in a hand embroidered quilted silk brocade. This was used as traveling shrine and carried on one's person when away from home.
Beginning with the “om” written on the left hand side of this traveling shrine, an itinerant Tibetan monk once traced his fingers clockwise over the embossed characters. As he did this, he recited "om ma ni padh mey hum," the universal Tibetan Buddhist prayer for the well-being of all sentient beings. Known as a Gau, this portable shrine...

Antique Sofa Bed Late Ming in Carved Wood and Rattan, Late 19 Th Century
By Ming Chiao Kuo
Located in Milano, IT
Ancient late Ming sofa bed of elegant proportions, the removable rails of the backrest and armrests are made of carved wooden panels. The ornaments have been carefully inlaid with jars and various containers. The central panel has a sinuous line also in low relief that allows its ends to fit perfectly with the side panels. The soft rattan matted seat enclosed within a rectangular frame with a wide and flat edge, the monobloc rear railing shaped slightly higher than the sides and all with rounded edges, the legs of rectangular section ending in hook-shaped feet joined by hump stretchers on the narrow sides. Well aged patina.
The structure is raised on four sturdy square section legs ending in hoofed feet facing inwards. The legs of the bed are thick and add power and a sturdy appearance to this old, massive day bed.
