Oscar Magallanes was born in 1976 in Duarte, CA. He recalls, “The first art I saw were murals of Zapata and Mexica glyphs from the Chicano movement. These were juxtaposed next to homeboy role calls and Old English writing. “My life has been shared between two countries, the United States and Mexico. I’ve experienced the hard rural life of my parents in Mexico and the dangerous and fragmented life of the inner city. I am a person made up from experiences from both of these worlds. I am Mexican but I am also American and I can slip between these two worlds with ease and exist in both simultaneously. Culture does not honor borders. Culture is about change and growth.
My work is inspired by the folk stories that my parents and grandparents have passed on. I have a desire to invent and share my own narratives and vision through printmaking. I want to be able to communicate through the image an invitation to tell a new story to be told or an old one to be remembered."

Miguel was born in 1964 in Colima, Mexico. One of Reyes's most vivid childhood memories is that of laying awake at night and listening to the sounds of people scurrying across his front porch as they hid in shadows and edged toward the fence, la linea, separating the U.S. from Mexico. Inevitably, Reyes's family made the trip themselves, deciding to stay in Los Angeles following one of their many “vacations (which meant going to Fresno to pick grapes for the summer). Besides Chicano cultural themes, his work also often includes homoerotic imagery.
He was drawn to art early in his life, and graduated from Oits Parsons School of Design in 1987 with a BFA in fine art. After a short sojourn into the fashion industry following graduation, Reyes pursued painting, and today makes his living doing portraits, teaching, illustrating books and taking on occasional public art project commissions.
Reyes' work incorporates expressionist brushwork and the saturated palette of the classic latin tradition. His work often incorporates homoerotic as well as Chicano themes.
His art has been exhibited throughout the United States, and has been published many magazines. Miguel has created murals for the Los Angeles MTA, and his work is in the collections of LACMA print collections, Laguna Art Museum, Watts Towers...
