Howard Hodgkin based this print on a trip he took to visit his good friend and fellow Petersburg Press collaborator David Hockney in Los Angeles. The mid-eighties saw new levels of abstraction in Hodgkin’s work, building exuberantly off the ambiguous spaces of his earlier work. The artist used six colors of paint, producing a unique depth and texture to each print in this edition.
Howard Hodgkin was introduced to the etching technique used in DH in Hollywood at Petersburg Press, where he was a long-time collaborator. Soft-ground etching allowed him to work fluidly and spontaneously, giving his prints the characteristic black brushstrokes seen in this print.

Signed by the artist with initials, dated 1980, and numbered lower center in red crayon. Soft-ground etching with hand coloring on Stoneridge mould-made etching paper.
This print is one of a group of soft-ground etchings (Artist and Model, Artist and Model (in green and yellow), Those…Plants). The two versions of Artist and Model are printed from the same plates, but in different colors. In this iteration, marigold orange contrasts beautifully with rich black ink. Seen in all three prints is a bust in silhouette before a window. Artist and Model is a surprising name, as Hodgkin never painted or drew from a model.
Howard Hodgkin was introduced to the etching technique used in Artist and Model at Petersburg Press, where this print was produced and where he would become a long-time collaborator. This technique allowed him to work fluidly and spontaneously, creating the moody interior scenes that mark Hodgkin’s work from the late 70s and early 80s.

Sir Peter Blake is one of the most successful British Pop artists from the fabulous 1960s, and his work can be found in major museums and collections worldwide. He is best known for creating the sleeve design of the Beatles' album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. It was with the Young Contemporaries exhibition of 1961, where he exhibited alongside David Hockney and R.B. Kitaj, that Blake rose to prominence. Blake created this limited edition print, a tribute to the Art Car, exclusively for the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair 2013. The work sold out completely in less than 15 minutes. ANOTHER DAY is an original limited edition woodcut by the American painter and sculptor, Otto Neals. The woodblock used to print ANOTHER DAY was hand carved by Otto Neals and printed in shades of brown, light blue, beige, and black on archival Rives BFK printmaking paper, 100% acid-free, enhanced with hand colored accents. ANOTHER DAY is a dramatic, contemporary black couple portrait portraying a man and woman standing back to back, the woman's arm raised up and pointing in front of her. She wears a stark white, bell-sleeved dress and large teardrop shaped dangle earrings and bangle bracelet, set against a dramatic natural wood grain patterned background, a large potted plant positioned on the table in the foreground. The man dressed in a warm brown colored suit, wearing white shirt and necktie, his dignified male profile looks straight ahead to the left of the composition adding visual interest and mystery.

Born in New York City in 1948, Eric Fischl grew up in the suburbs of Long Island , his parents having moved there shortly before his second year.”Safer place to raise a family”, they used to say. Against a backdrop of alcoholism and a country club culture obsessed with image over content, Fischl became focused on the rift between what was experienced and what could not be said. Until the late 70’s, suburbia was not considered a legitimate genre for art. With his first New York show at the Edward Thorp Gallery, epithets like “psycho-sexual suburban dramas” became velcroed to his disturbing images of dyfunctional family life.
Fischl began his art education in Phoenix, Arizona where his parents had moved in 1967. First at Phoenix Junior College, then a year at Arizona State University, and finally getting his BFA in 1972 at the recently opened California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. After graduation he moved to Chicago where he worked as a guard at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
