Spode Porcelain Teacup Trio, Red Imari Dollar Pattern, Regency, ca 1810
By Spode
Located in London, GB
This is a beautiful orphaned teacup made by Spode in about 1810. It bears a beautiful Japanese-inspired Imari pattern. Spode was the great pioneer among the Georgian potters in England. Around the year 1800 he perfected the bone china recipe that has been used by British potters ever since, and he was also the leading potter behind the technique of transferware, making it possible for English potters to replace the Chinese export china, which had come to an end around that time, with their own designs. This was fundamental to a thriving industry that would last for about 150 years and provide half the world with their tableware. Spode porcelain is regarded as one of the highest quality porcelains around; for a soft-paste porcelain it is surprisingly hard and fine, and has a wonderful bright white colour. The pattern on this can is called "Dollar" pattern, a very famous pattern that was used by English potters in the 18th and early 19th Century. It is obvious why it is called “dollar” - but its origin is less obvious! It is thought that this pattern was derived from a very old Chinese pattern depicting a tree with elaborate foliage that hides a Chinese character representing longevity or happiness. Traditionally, this went with a an image called “Taotie”, which was used on very ancient bronze vases...

Antique White Glazed Porcelain Recumbent Hound Figure
Located in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire
An exceptional antique, probably English, white glazed porcelain figure of a recumbent hound dating from the early 19th century. The figure is finely hand crafted with wonderful detail with the hound resting its head on its outstretched front paws and wearing a collar around its neck and with its tail resting against its back leg. The modelling is exceptional capturing the hounds features, rib cage and muscle tones. The hound has an unglazed flat base and is not marked. The figure is typical in quality of some of the early English porcelain...

No Limits #1, a Pink, Peach & White Glass Sculpture by Maria Bang Espersen
By Maria Bang Espersen
Located in London, GB
‘No Limits #1' is a unique glass sculpture by the Danish artist, Maria Bang Espersen. Maria Bang Espersen works around the idea that all things are malleable, like glass, and that nothing can be permanently defined. Her experimental sculptures are therefore not only an approach but also a statement; one that states to never get caught up in the restrictive norms or to obey established hierarchies. Essentially, her works in glass, are a play with the possibilities of the material and an attempt to expand the viewer’s understanding of her chosen medium. Although static and solid in their final sate, Espersen stretches, pulls and bends her glass, resulting in works that appear soft and almost possible of languid movement. Her chosen sweets confectionery colour palette entices and draws the onlooker towards the artwork, which deliciously glisten. Espersen studied glass and ceramics at Engelsholm Højskole, in Denmark, continuing her studies at the Kosta School of Glass in Sweden, The Royal Danish Academy of Design, and Haystack Mountain...
