Featured In A STRANGE WORLDDesire and its Discontents II
The composition is part II of a two-part pair that interrogates with the traumatic tensions of space and proximity in intimacy, through enactment. It expresses a second scene unraveled from the aftermath of an irreconcilable urgent demand. Two stone figures are addressing their desire in the form of a text message and something Other. This Other component is itself a drama elaborated within the context of communicating a message—it is both part of them like an organ, and yet separate. The glass figure produced from the masculine subject suffers the effects of guilt, prostrating before the wall; while the glass figure of the feminine subject holds their abdomen, pressing the other hand firmly onto the glass.
The work was entirely created in 3D, using fluid simulation to produce the smoke volumes as well as hair simulation for the feminine subject.
Yebu-Tonu (yebutonu) is a 3D artist from Toronto, Canada currently living in Berlin. Originally starting his career-path in neuroscience, he researched rodent psychopharmacology and human brain mapping. After withdrawing from graduate school, his academic experiences became the pulsion toward new horizons, asking questions that cut across technical art and the subject.Self-taught with only a professional background in the sciences, Yebu-Tonu began experimenting with a variety of digital art methods until he found his calling in 3D. Inspired by certain themes in psychoanalysis, Yebu-Tonu became interested in the "conversation" between figures compositionally to "tell" a story or drama. Today, his work experimentally interrogates with volatile bodies, fantasy, unconscious theatre, and points of impossibilities from a subjective position.
