ABSTRACT (Reflect) is a new watercolor on Fabriano paper by Fleur Thesmar. The artwork measures 30x22", and is a striking composition in tones of slate blue, teal, umber and tan. Note the symmetry, the apparent clearing in the center and rippling to the sides. And of course the focus, the great celestial sphere... From Fleur Thesmar – "Some geometric shapes and reflections seem to come alive, like the Sun or the Moon in the sky reflecting on a pond. It's like a game of mirrors, a vibration. This painting is made with hand-harvested pigments transformed in watercolor, in an effort to investigate the history and sustainability of my medium." Having moved her family from France to America, artist Fleur Thesmar closely observed the changes in her world – from the seemingly obvious such as surrounding landscapes, the light of day and weather, the flowers, trees and shorelines – to the smaller less obvious shifts, such as how one behaves in a new world, in a new home, how one cherishes certain belongings and certain memories. Her artistic practice is borne out of that close observation and shift in perspective, and has led to a number of successful gallery shows in the U.S. and internationally. In this series artist took positions, and gestures of revolutionary and rebellious bodies on the battlefield of revolution and transformed them dynamically into precious sources of resistance by spiritual transitions of colors akin to alchemy, meat, and blood found their symbolic meaning through colors and expressive brushstrkes, metals here refer to bodies of freedom seekers, shapable, flexible, shiny and a source of strength, that highlights how a body becomes a battlefield, a golden source of sacrifice, a silver font of resistance, copper as blood and women fighting for freedom.  Her works in this series challenge oppression, torture, censorship, and gender-related issues themes by applying oriental brushstrokes of calligraphy in ink as a primary tool, to fragile subjects. She portrays her Eastern identity through materials and techniques as a fundament, adding layers of today's socio-political concerns. In her Exhibition "Heroine's Journey" presented in the Sparkasse Plettenberg, Germany in 2023, she with the same approach successfully presented revolutionary and rebellious gestures by applying the same metaphorical limited colors of alchemical metals. What makes this series unique: it is deeply behind the dynamic emotion of each gestural figure, represented in a minimalistic manner, and the vigorous and unbridled energy of brushstrokes, as raw, spontaneous, and emotionally charged.  Parimah Avani, born in 1988 in Tehran, Iran, is a multidisciplinary artist and a recognized figure in contemporary hermetic Persian literature and the avant-garde "Other" movement. Her book, "Magic Verses of Antalus," was a finalist for the prestigious "Shamlou" Award. Her most recent achievement is winning an art competition for a scholarship from Werkstatt Plettenberg in Germany, culminating in a solo exhibition held at the Gallery of the German Bank...
