About the Item

Watercolor on paper of a chorus or show girl by Ruth Adele Mysel. Mysel grew up in Boston and attended the New England School of Art. She was both a artist and sculptor as well as being a published author. Later she lived in Charlotte Harbor and Sarasota, Florida. The piece is signed lower right and most likely was executed in the late 1940's or early 1950's. It is matted and newly framed in nickel plated thin metal frame. Overall size framed is 18.5 by 15.25 inches.

Here for your consideration is a well executed mixed media painting composed of India ink and watercolor wash of a beautiful showgirl Signed lower left and dated 1980. Condition is excellent. Recently professionally re matted and housed in it original brass thin gallery frame. Overall framed measurements are 23 by 20 inches. Provenance: A Sarasota, Florida collector. As a child, growing up in the '30s and '40s, Earl Linderman was fascinated by the comic strips and Saturday matinees. Signed lower left, 'Sascha Brastoff' (American, 1918-1993) and dated 1960. 1918 - Sascha Brastoff was born Samuel Brostofsky in Cleveland, Ohio. 1935 - At age 17, Brastoff studies dance and joins the Cleveland Ballet. 1940 - Attends Western Reserve School of Art in Cleveland and, subsequently, works for Macy's in NYC. 1942 - Brastoff enters the Army Air Force. Initially designing posters, he joins the ATC road show. 1944 - Brastoff moves to California and signs a seven year contract with 20th Century Fox as a designer and entertainer. 1947 - Brastoff opens his first ceramic plant in Los Angeles producing hand painted earthenware. 1948 - Brastoff is awarded Best of Show for Pottery at the Syracuse Museum. 1952 - With backing from Winthrop Rockefeller, Brastoff opens a new, larger factory in Los Angeles.
