Signed lower left, 'Sascha Brastoff' (American, 1918-1993) and dated 1960. 1918 - Sascha Brastoff was born Samuel Brostofsky in Cleveland, Ohio. 1935 - At age 17, Brastoff studies dance and joins the Cleveland Ballet. 1940 - Attends Western Reserve School of Art in Cleveland and, subsequently, works for Macy's in NYC. 1942 - Brastoff enters the Army Air Force. Initially designing posters, he joins the ATC road show. 1944 - Brastoff moves to California and signs a seven year contract with 20th Century Fox as a designer and entertainer. 1947 - Brastoff opens his first ceramic plant in Los Angeles producing hand painted earthenware. 1948 - Brastoff is awarded Best of Show for Pottery at the Syracuse Museum. 1952 - With backing from Winthrop Rockefeller, Brastoff opens a new, larger factory in Los Angeles. The factory is destroyed by fire shortly after. 1953 - A larger 35,000 sq. ft. factory and show-room opens and employs more than 100 people. 1960 - Brastoff's company begins to suffer from financial losses after years of success. 1962 - Brastoff has a nervous breakdow, his company continues to sell items under his name. 1966 - After several years away from the public eye, Brastoff has a one-man show of metal sculpture at the Dalzell Hatfield Galleries in Los Angeles. 1971 - Brastoff designs the Esplanade and Roman Bronze lines for the Haeger Potteries. 1972 - He produces a line of jewelry for Marilyn Watson Creations. 1973 - The Sascha Brastoff ceramic factory closes after many years of producing his designs. 1975 - Brastoff produces a line of jewelry for Merle Norman. 1975-1985 - Brastoff designs and produces a myriad of lines for other ceramic, jewelry and decorative arts companies. Signed lower left, 'A. C. Wiboltt' for Aage Christian (Jack) Wiboltt (Danish-American, 1894-1952) and created circa 1925. Framed dimensions: 33.25 x 1.5 x 28 inches A substantial, early twentieth-century, figural pastel showing a young woman wearing traditional gypsy costume and playing her flute beside a deep azure lake dotted with water-lilies. Jack Wiboltt first trained at Copenhagen's Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen before moving to New York in 1919. In 1924, he settled in California where he lived and painted in both San Francisco and Los Angeles. For 30 years, he practiced as an easel painter and was also commissioned to paint murals including for the 1939 exposition at San Francisco and for Hollywood's Fox Theater among others He exhibited widely and with success including at the Danish Royal Academy (1913), the New York World's Fair (1939), the Golden Gate International Exposition (1939) and the Pasadena Art Institute (1932) among others. Matted dimensions: 12.75 H x 14 W x .5 D inches Vernon Wilson studied at the Pasadena Art Center College of Design, the University of Miami and Belmont Abbey College. He exhibited widely and with success including at the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh (1923, 1928, 1929), the Pittsburgh Architectural Club (1933) and the Los Angeles Art Association, among others.
