About the Item

This delightful watercolour, aattributed to the British artist William Payne (1760-1830) depicts an idyllic stretch of English coastline with figures washing laundry by the water's edge. The watercolour has been presented in an attractive gilt-effect frame with a Appleby Bros gallery label fixed to the reverse. A later inscription - "On Devonshire Coast" by William Payne can be found to the reverse of the painting. On paper.
