About the Item
Frame is additional $700.
I was born in Manhattan, but the most important places in my life have been here on Long Island by the ocean and in the mountains and forests of Vermont. I love to surf, I love to ski, and I love to sit quietly in nature and observe. I dare to call myself a naturalist, and as a naturalist and artist, I want people to fall in love with nature with me.
The trick with watercolor –– as with life –– is knowing when to take control, and when to let go. The medium has a mind of its own, it needs to be allowed to wander, bloom, do its magic on the paper. In that sense, some of the most interesting parts of my paintings I didn't create.

Coral Column
Located in Palm Desert, CA
Alongside my wife Nansi, I have been lucky to explore some of the most beautiful and pristine coral reefs in the world. People often think we take pictures of the corals and paint them, but that is far from our process, which involves (at least in this case) working from an abstract design and weaving in memories and imagination until I had this image resolved. This painting is scheduled to be a part of our (Nansi’s and mine) international museum exhibition highlighting the beauty and fragility of our coral reef ecosystems, kicking off at the new ICONIC Museum in Texas in 2024.

For over a decade, he was the Vice President of the historic California Art Club...
