This artwork titled "Storm Cove Lighthouse" c.1950 is a watercolor on paper by noted California artist Nat Levy 1896-1984. It is signed at the lower right corner by the artist. The artwork size is 21.25 x 28.75 inches, framed is 27.85 x 35.25 inches. it is custom framed in the original wood distressed style frame, with beige matting. It is in excellent condition, the matting is slightly discolored by time and will be replaced by a new one when sold, before shipping. This will bring the over all condition to excellent.
About the artist:
Nat Levy (1896-1984) Born: San Francisco, CA; Studied: Mark Hopkins Institute of Art (San Francisco), California School of Fine Arts (San Francisco); Member: Society of Western Artists. Nat Levy was born and raised in San Francisco and after attending high school, studied art with Maynard Dixon, Harold Von Schmidt, Armin Hansen and Frank Van Sloan. By the 1920s, he was an expert watercolor artist and exhibited his works professionally from that time on.
His paintings were included in the thirteen watercolorists exhibitions. In addition to being one of the original members of that group, he was an early member of the Society of Western Artists and was the Society's president in 1955. Throughout the years he taught watercolor painting and produced illustrations, poster designs and prints. He also traveled and painted in New England, Europe and the Far East.
The Chronicle art critic Alfred Frankenstein wrote, "Nat Levy's atmospheric renditions are so beautiful they seem as though they were painted with fog on his brush." Levy was one of 25 American painters chosen to exhibit at the Royal Gallery in London in 1977. He often served as a judge at the state fairs in Sacramento and painted steadily for 70 years.
A lifelong resident of his native city, he died on Sept. 25, 1984.

He was an early member of the Society of Western Artists. Levy was a lifelong resident of San Francisco. Wayne Ensrud was born in Minnesota where he received his BFA from the Minneapolis Institute of Art. As a student he met Oskar Kokoschka, the artist-in-residence at the Institute, who profoundly influenced Ensrud's work and has remained his friend and mentor ever since.
When Pablo Casals conducted his Master Class Series at Berkeley. Wayne Ensrud had the honor ot being invited to execute drawings of the great cellist during those sessions. and this year when the New York Chamber Society celebrated its 10th anniversary.Ensrud was asked to sit in on rehearsals and sketch the world famous violinists ltzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman. Actress Jayne Mansfield, novelist Alex Waugh, wine connoisseur Alexis Lichine are among others who have been portrayed by Ensrud.
Mr. Ensrud has been a free-lance art director and animator for ABC, CBS, and IRM IBM contracted him to he the series, "Computer and the Mind of Man", which has been translated into 18 languages and won several international awards. For ABC he created the film animations for the Gemini Space Programs. He taught film animation at Pratt Institute for tour years. Preston as the new home of the Boston Society for Natural History, which had been founded in 1830.
