About the Item

Juventus 1995-96 – Stretching Before the Match. Drawing by Silombria, 1996 Large pencil drawing on paper, signed and dated lower right: Silombria ’96. Dimensions: H 101 cm × W 72 cm This drawing captures two Juventus players during warm-up, one crouched, the other focused above him. The tension of the muscles, the striped jersey, and the intimate spatial relationship between the two athletes create a charged and evocative scene. Beyond a simple sports gesture, the composition suggests admiration for male strength and mutual physical trust, themes central to Marco Silombria’s work. Silombria’s Juventus series — created in 1996, the year the team triumphed in the UEFA Champions League — portrays football players with the idealized anatomy of Greek heroes, mixing athleticism and homoerotic undertones in a Pop-Art reinterpretation of classical mythology. Marco Silombria (Savona, 1936 – Albissola, 2017) was a painter, sculptor and graphic designer. Based in Turin from the 1960s, he created famous advertising for FIAT, Gallo rice and others. From the 1980s, his work shifted toward openly homoerotic art, drawing from classical themes and mythological bodies, always celebrating male beauty with irony, sensuality and power. Charcoal on paper Signed and dated: Silombria ’96 Dimensions: Height: 101 cm (39.76 in) Width: 72 cm (28.35 in) Provenance: From the artist’s estate. Part of the Juventus 1995-96 drawing series (26 pieces total).

Original 'Soccer' vintage lithograph posters a.k.a. "Heads Up", Spain
Located in Spokane, WA
Original Soccer vintage sports poster. Linen backed in very good condition, ready to frame. Printed by Ortega Company in Valencia. This type of untitled vintage poster was commonly printed and the date of an upcoming game and team would be added at the bottom of the poster. Soccer games were played quite often, allowing the local team to advertise their events without reprinting a new poster for each game or event. This poster was printed as a full lithograph, so it was expensive to produce. There is no specific designation of which two teams are being shown here in this antique poster The poster has a nickname of ‘heads-up,” as two of the players are in the air as they position themselves to control the soccer ball. Valencia two main clubs, FC València and Levante UD, attract hordes of fans to their matches. Both clubs play in the First Division of La Liga...
