Maurice Mazeilie (French, 1924 - 2021):
Mazeilie lived and worked in Montmartre, where he had a studio on the famous Place du Tertre. Place du Tertre, located just a stone’s throw away from the Basilica of Sacré-Cœur, is known for its vibrant community of artists and is considered one of the key locations in Montmartre's artistic history. Since the late 19th century, Montmartre has been a haven for artists, housing greats like Picasso and Modigliani, and providing inspiration with its scenic streets and bustling cafés.

Historical Significance: Place du Tertre became known as an artist's hub during the Belle Époque era, with painters such as Toulouse-Lautrec, Renoir, and Degas frequenting the area. By the 20th century, it became synonymous with art and creativity.
