Aluu Prosper Chigozie Golden Triangle 12023
2023
About the Item
"The golden triangle" is the second pair from the series of Abfillage works referred to as "Renegades of a breaking nation". The eliminated afro hair, the symbol, and the expressions form the basis of the narrative of this art.
The expression of serenity, tranquility, calmness, pride, unconscious of the external environment, and a state of deep thought defines the emotional status of the subject.
The symbol of this pair is a triangular sign made with a golden color on the neck. It is made of three strokes, unlike the first pair made of 2 strokes, thereby showing
a transition. It is basic and a symbol of balance like the other four paintings.
The term "golden triangle" is a term used in mathematics for a triangle with an interior angle ratio of 1:2:2. But rather than constructing a mathematical golden triangle, the triangle was painted with golden pigment. The triangle is a symbol of geometric sturdiness and strength, a symbol of harmony, and unity of 3 parts. When we are focused on our truth, we are connected to life and have the experience of life coming to us.
"Renegades of a breaking nation" is a series of 5 Abfillage artworks, created in 3 sections creating a form of transition using 3 symbols. A transition from a state of
one nation to another. By creating a combination of expressive portraits and symbols in gold acrylic pigments which all signify balance. A transition to steadiness, equilibrium, and stability of a country.

Prosper Aluu makes figurative and expressive paintings His stylized figures show the use of the artistic devices of elongation and exaggeration and his unique style of painting the iconic afro hairstyle These are his ways of celebrating and
negotiating African identity In traditional African art visual codes, the exaggeration of the head in comparison to other parts of the body is a well-known visual strategy to establish the head as the seat of wisdom and intellectual prowess according to the beliefs in parts of Africa Prosper plays with the size, forms, and presentation of the head of the figures in his paintings as a visual pun to challenge what he considers a one-sided narrative about the size of the head in traditional African art His style of painting rich afro hairstyles and golden crowns on the heads of his figures are meant to ennoble and dignify the subject By using Nigerian newspapers in his works, he tells stories of past by preserving stories of the present While he focuses on black identity, with this he believes that in order to preserve culture, he must continue to create it He
pours colors over these newspapers to beautify and sugarcoat the tragedy and frustration of living in his country Abfillage is an intricate technique and a body of works by Prosper Aluu which began in the mid-2022
The term Abfillage can be seen as a portmanteau of " Abstract"," and " which refers to an exquisitely made artwork that involves the painting of a figure on a newspaper or magazine collage on canvas that has been decorated with colors These figures are mostly painted with some or all of the attires neglected
The purpose of Abfillage is mostly to preserve the written stories or actions of the present in the artwork and sometimes highlight its effects and actions in figurative forms. The beautiful application of colors in the texts is intended to mollify some of the negative stories and happenings within.

"Man Wearing Crown in Water", acrylic, paper, myth, loss, humanity, surrealist
Located in Toronto, Ontario
"Man Wearing Crown in Water" is an acrylic paint and mixed media on paper, by Brooklyn, New York artist Dale Williams. It measures 50" high by 38" wide. This artwork is part of a new ongoing series called "Humans Without Warning". Typical of the artist's practice, it is mythic and humanitarian all at once, striking several political and spiritual notes as well.
From Dale Williams – "The figures of Humans Without Warning arrive with little forethought. They soon reveal their troubled and antic states of being. They began at the start of the COVID pandemic and explore shared vulnerabilities in a time of political and social disunity. If I am mindful of any of their attributes as I work on them, it is surely how the figures mirror the losses many of us have experienced over the past two years, and the accompanying trudge which often finds us stumbling into numbness."
From George Del Barrio (2018), Vanderbilt Republic, Brooklyn NY: "Williams acknowledges a large range of influences on his vision: the moral lessons embodied in the works of 17th century engraver Jacques Lagniet, the darkling phantasms and tragic reportage of Goya’s Caprichos and Disasters of War, and the personal mythologizing of the late paintings of Philip Guston. Such works echo throughout Williams social surrealist re-visioning."
Dale Williams has exhibited in the New York City area for over 25 years. He is a 2014 recipient of a Fellowship in Printmaking/Drawing/Book Arts from the New York Foundation for the Arts. His recent one-person show, “America Now Suite,” which re-visioned American history in service of the civic imagination, was held at Gowanus Loft, Brooklyn in October 2018. A selection of portraits from “America Now Suite” was included in the BRIC Biennial, Winter/Spring 2019. His portrait of Osip Mandelstam...
