About the Item

"American Cheese" is an original artwork by Eustace Mamba and measures 24"h x 24"w x 1.5"d. The artists cuts, arranges, sews, and collages fabric and paints to create layers of texture and color. This piece is signed en verso and ships with a gallery-issued Certificate of Authenticity. Mamba feverishly documents his surroundings, characterizing the historical and cultural charge of his neighborhood while also being inspired by passersby. His process swells as he introduces found materials to build his characters: cigar wrappers, cardboard, fabric, and foil are identifiable yet are expertly tied together through Mamba’s signature sewn patterns and neon underpainting. His visible sewing notably brings together disparate objects to form engaging portraits or subway scenes, highlighting the labor and care he takes in constructing his artwork. He does not shy from recycling or deconstructing a work in progress back into raw material for his next piece. He leaves stitching as a token of memory as if his thread ties together the collective memory of his community near and far. Mamba leans into the necessity of using found material or old paintings, as each upcycled textile holds a story that is yet to be discovered and can be given a second life through his work. Eustace Mamba (b. 1992, NYC, USA) is an artist and designer whose interdisciplinary practice spans painting, collage, street photography, and mixed-media design. Rooted in his West Indian heritage and Manhattan upbringing, his work explores identity, community, and the fluidity of American life. Drawing from illustration, he constructs narratives that blend observation with invention, portraying both personal and collective experiences. Through repurposed materials and sewn elements, he challenges Western image norms while threading together themes of resilience and transformation. Mamba holds an MFA and BFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. His work has been exhibited widely and is included in the collections of the Woodmere Art Museum, the Petrucci Family Foundation Collection of African American Art, and the Museum at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

OYV-19 - Contemporary Abstract Collage Painting- Yellow, measuring tape
Located in Signal Mountain, TN
OYV-19 is part of Eric Mack's ongoing body of work utilizing multi-media, complex compositions, and a grid centered around urban design. Using a grid to create the framework of the painting, Mack has re-purposed an old Lenny Kravitz album cover as the structure of the piece. On the edges of the piece you can see a complex edge consisting of a faux leather album cover, nylon mesh, and torn paper. As imagery, Mack has chosen musical notes, tape measure, and other music composition elements through Zerox copy adhered by matte medium to the surface. Mack then creates his own color to further tweak and personalize the piece. Eric Mack (b.1976, Charleston) creates mathematically based renderings with a distinct post-modern twist. Works are informed with super imposed grids, patterns, and portals. Layered surfaces are created with paint, found objects, natural fibers, and synthetic substrates that explore the systems of our visual world. His most recent show “Charting the Terrain” is on view now at the California African American Museum in Los Angeles was covered by the Los Angeles Times, KCRW, and LALA Magazine. His last solo exhibition was titled "Impossible Architectures" at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2017. Recent group shows include "Abstract Mind" at the Czong Institute of Contemporary Art, South Korea, "Small Works 2017 at Trestle Gallery, Brooklyn, "Checkered History", Outpost Artist Resources, Brooklyn, N.Y. 2015; Collections include High Museum Atlanta, Ing Investments, Hartsfield Jackson International Airport - Atlanta + Atlanta Gas & Light Co.
