For this edition, José took inspiration from the culture of writers in New York. The term “benching” comes from that place — the main purpose of the Writer’s Bench was to watch the trains that had been freshly painted, to meet other artists, exchange black books, sometimes to even settle an argument. José says of the piece, “I think of this work as an homage to the culture of writers in New York. When making the work, I imagined the layers of the billboards in subway stations and I was inspired by the colours and collage elements often seen on the billboards on the platforms themselves.”

José Parlá
The American artist was born in 1973 and his place of birth is in Miami. He was the son of Cuban immigrant parents. He was interested in paintings and creative works from his early days. He started painting arts at the age of 10 and garnered experience of paintings on walls of the city. He used to sign using name “Ease” on his work. At the age of 16, he earned the scholarship from the Savannah College of Art & Design. According to reports, it was his high school teacher who discovered his talents and contributed in providing the scholarship to him. Later, Parlá was enrolled at Miami Dade Community College. He also went to New World School of the Arts. After the death of his father, Parlá moved to the Bronx and was focused on establishing himself as a renowned artist in New York. He is an American critically acclaimed artist in large-scale murals, paintings, photography and also works for videos and sculpture. His first large-scale mural was in 2009 for City Place which is a Toronto housing development. Damien Hirst first came to public attention in London in 1988 when he conceived and curated "Freeze," an exhibition in a disused warehouse that showed his work and that of his friends and fellow students at Goldsmiths College. In the nearly quarter of a century since that pivotal show (which would come to define the Young British Artists), Hirst has become one of the most influential artists of his generation. His groundbreaking works include The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living (1991), a shark in formaldehyde; Mother and Child Divided (1993) a four-part sculpture of a bisected cow and calf; and For the Love of God (2007), a human skull studded with 8,601 diamonds. In addition to his installations and sculptures, Hirst’s Spot paintings...

Represent - street art colorful abstract mixed media painting framed
By David Fredrik Moussallem
Located in New York, NY
David Fredrik Moussallem’s mixed-media abstract paintings tell different “stories from the streets” and respond to urban landscape. His palette is soft, mainly using white, beige and blue that mimic the surface of peeling city walls.
Extensive travels all around the world have triggered a fascination for global subcultures and urban street life, while his academic background in advertising, graphic design, and typography have heavily influenced his compositional approach.
Moussallem’s mixed media paintings resemble distressed city walls that, like palimpsests have accrued years of graffiti, posters, and fliers. He blends calligraphy and personal inscriptions with blurred color fields, using paint brushes...
