"In these works, Aldrich paints on surfaces that have been covered in uniform vertical strips of caulk. The textures don’t play into the subjects of these paintings so much as create a consistent 3D pattern across the whole surface of a wood panel covered with canvas.
Two of the most interesting works in this style give us graphic renderings of domestic interiors laid out in blocks of color and elemental shapes. 'Kitchen Sink' and 'Ironing' depict counters, faucets and ironing boards through a distorted perspective that’s unnervingly deep and narrow, vertiginous and claustrophobic. The caulk brings lots of texture to these works, and Aldrich’s paint appears to be applied in chromatic washes of yellow, pink and blue that seem serene given their off-kilter surroundings. In fact, Aldrich uses the repeating vertical textures to create vividly colored lenticular illusions in these works, which only reveal themselves as viewers move past the paintings.
In addition to their formal qualities and their narrative content, Aldrich’s works also comment on traditional gender roles in Western society. Frida Kahlo was born on July 6, 1907 in the house of her parents, known as La Casa Azul (The Blue House), in Coyoacan.
Frida always claimed to be born on 1910, the year of the outbreak of the Mexican revolution, so that people could directly associate her with the modern Mexico.
This detail well introduces us to a singular personality, characterized since her childhood by a deep sense of independence and rebellion against ordinary social and moral habits, moved by passion and sensuality, proud of her "Mexicanidad" and cultural tradition set against the reigning Americanization: everything mixed with a peculiar sense of humour.
Her life was marked by physical suffering, started with the polio contracted at the age of five and worsen by her life-dominating event occurred in 1925. A bus accident caused severe injuries to her body owing to a pole that pierced her from the stomach to the pelvis. The medicine of her time tortured her body with surgical operations (32 throughout her life), corsets of different kinds and mechanical "stretching" systems.
Lots of her works were painted laying in the bed. Drawing on personal experiences, her miscarriages, and her numerous operations, Kahlo's works are often characterized by portrayals of pain. Of her 143 paintings, 55 are self-portraits which often incorporate symbolic portrayals of physical and psychological wounds.
As a young artist, Kahlo approached the famous Mexican painter, Diego Rivera, who recognized her talent and her unique expression as truly special and uniquely Mexican. He encouraged her development as an artist and soon began an intimate relationship with Frida. They were married in 1929, despite the disapproval of Frida's mother, divorced and then remarried in 1940.

The artist is heavily influenced of by Pop Art pioneer Andy Warhol, Young owns a printmaking press once used by Warhol. Born on March 13, 1959 in York, United Kingdom, Young enrolled at the Chester Art College and the Exeter College of Art, where he studied graphic design, drawing, film, and photography. Moving to London to work as a photographer’s assistant afforded him an entrée into the world of commercial photography. As his reputation for celebrity portraiture grew, Young relocated to Los Angeles where he was soon directing music videos. The artist is heavily influenced of by Pop Art pioneer Andy Warhol, Young owns a printmaking press once used by Warhol. Born on March 13, 1959 in York, United Kingdom, Young enrolled at the Chester Art College and the Exeter College of Art, where he studied graphic design, drawing, film, and photography. Moving to London to work as a photographer’s assistant afforded him an entrée into the world of commercial photography. As his reputation for celebrity portraiture grew, Young relocated to Los Angeles where he was soon directing music videos. In the 1990s, he moved away from photography to follow a new found interest in painting.
