About the Item
Monica DeSalvo’s “The End of Sums" is a mixed-media collage on paper, featuring abstract acrylic monotypes in green, purple, magenta, and yellow. The triptych-like composition has a botanical feel, with collage elements extending beyond the edges to create an organic frame. The irregular edges are enhanced by white paint, carrying the wide borders into the piece. The monotypes were created using a Gelli plate, capturing impressions of items such as feathers and leaves. Some are printed on vintage ledger paper with handwritten text from DeSalvo’s late father. Remnants of white out strips add an unexpected rectangular texture. Collage elements include clusters of salad, berries, and a shoe. The work is on archival printmaking paper with deckled edges and a signature beneath the image.
Monica DeSalvo is a Boston-based mixed-media artist and designer with a BFA in Visual Design from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. Her work has been featured in juried and invitational exhibitions, as well as in several periodicals, and is part of collections in the United States and Europe. DeSalvo is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston.
