About the Item
Monica DeSalvo’s “Space Junk” is a 22 x 30 inch surreal collage on a digital enlargement of an abstract acrylic monotype with pink, tan, orange, peach, sage, and white. Soft textures and depth are created by the uneven distribution of color and layering a day’s worth of final pulls with a Gelli plate, capturing faint impressions of items such as a feather. Collage elements include monotype fragments with botanical forms and vintage textbook images from DeSalvo’s late father. Some of the monotype fragments were printed on her father’s engineering forms which she regularly incorporates into her work.
The work is on archival printmaking paper with a deckled edge at the top. It is hinge-mounted with archival linen tape onto a sheet of 24.5 x 32.25 inch archival foamcore, providing a rigid surface with a border (approximately 1.25 inches) for framing. The signature is below the image.

Her work has been featured in juried and invitational exhibitions, as well as in several periodicals, and is part of collections in the United States and Europe.
