Title - Man up Size - 36 x 36 inches Were taught a definition of masculinity via the language we hear around us, boys are taught that expressing sorrow/crying is not a trait of real men. Men in the society are expected to become “protectors†of and “providers†for their families. Crying like a girl, Boys dont cry. Man up, be a man be strong. Strong, strong, strong. " New masculinity " A lot has changed in the last few centuries. Now Love for flowers or pink color has no gender. Man feels OK crying, admitting their struggles, and asking for help. Man has evolved from a food gatherer, hunter, warrior, figure of physical strength and security, the sole breadwinner to a more balanced role of doing a good mix of all the earlier roles and balancing it with a lot of household chores. These include taking care of the kids, doing the dishes, doing laundry, cooking meals, and various other things Men today are much more sensible, sensitive and respectful of women. Artist biography
Peter Martin Gregor Heinrich Hellberg (later Yigal Tumarkin) was born in Dresden, Germany in 1933. His father, Martin Hellberg, was a German theatre actor and director. With his mother, Berta Gurevitch, and his stepfather, Herzl Tumarkin, Tumarkin immigrated to Mandate Palestine when he was two. He served in the Israeli Sea Corps and, after completing his military service, studied sculpture with Rudi Lehman in Ein Hod, a village of artists near Mount Carmel.
In 1955, Tumarkin went to Berlin to work as a scenographer for Bertolt Brecht...
