Rei Egusquiza uses collage and drawing to manipulate composition. Lines, patterns, orbs and masks obscure faces and bodies to unveil new themes, emotions and intent in subjects. Each newly synthesized work attempts to understand the reasons why we refrain from fully expressing our persona and drive.
“Mondo Cane” is a reaction to the ever-increasing hostility coursing through the world. The artwork, named after the 1962 documentary, is a general commentary about the theme of hostility and the alternating bouts of anger and sadness one feels when reflecting on the harsh realities of the modern times.
