About the Item

"Mann mit Goldhelm" (1994) by Thomas Baumgaertel aka Der Bananensprayer 36 x 46 cm, including frame 50,5 x 60,5 cm Mixed Technique Unique, dated and signed by the artist with “Bananensprayer” on the front and back For this artwork, the artist used a copy of “The Man with the Golden Helmet”, added his banana with spray paint and stencil – and it became an new original. Thomas Baumgaertel (*1960), known as "The Banana Sprayer", is the most famous German street artist and is now a respected artist in whose series of paintings the yellow fruit plays a key role. Since 1986 he has been marking the most interesting art locations worldwide - from New York to Beijing - with his banana. It has now become the logo of the art scene and can be found on the portal of almost all galleries and museums for modern art worldwide. For Baumgaertel it symbolizes the freedom of art, which also consists in being able to have subversive fun by establishing a banal graffiti as an artistic logo in public space. But Thomas Baumgaertel's works are not just fun and provocation - the well-known artist also deals with current political issues, which he critically links to his unmistakable identifying feature.
