About the Item
Xenia Ostrovskaya, born in 1989, is a visual artist from Saint Petersburg. She studied ceramics and porcelain painting at Saint Petersburg State University. This was followed in 2015 by studies at the University of Applied Arts, in the class for graphics and printmaking under the direction of Professor Jan Svenungsson.
The artist lives and works in Vienna.
This is a mixed media collage on canvas by Xenia Ostrovskaya, featuring a surreal and symbolic composition. The central motive - a large, ghostly wolf hovering over a young girl - evokes themes of protection, danger and blurred boundaries between reality and fantasy. The girl, dressed in a red coat, immediatly recalls the fairy tale of ,,Little Red Riding Hood", but instead of a direct retelling, the composition suggests a more ambiguous relationship between the two figures. The wolf, rather than appearing purely menacing, seems to embody both a guardian and a lurking threat, reflecting the duality of wildness and guidance.
