Xenia Ostrovskaya, born in 1989, is a visual artist from Saint Petersburg. She studied ceramics and porcelain painting at Saint Petersburg State University. This was followed in 2015 by studies at the University of Applied Arts, in the class for graphics and printmaking under the direction of Professor Jan Svenungsson. The artist lives and works in Vienna. Xenia Ostrovskaya's ,,Global Warming" is a thought-provoking collage on canvas that addresses environmental concerns through a poetic and surreal visual language. The composition juxtaposes delicate, translucent jellyfish floating in an undefined, neutral toned space with a vintage black and white postcard of a water adjacent urban landscape. This interplay of elements suggests a haunting vision of a worl transformed by climate change.
