About the Item
Contemporary quilt by Welsh artist Bethan Ash. Bethan is a well published artist and her quilts have been exhibited Internationally and are in Several Museums in the USA including Museum Of Art And Design in New York.
Statement: Every so often I have a break from working with strong, vibrant colours. The fabrics used in this quilt come from 1930’s satin Viscose bedspreads, to create soft muted colours I have over dyed, resist and discharged with Procion MX dye and household bleach. This piece is my ‘Interlude’ from using vibrant colours and represents a pause in time.
Size: h: 123cm x w: 138cm 48.5" x 54.5"
Techniques: Improvisational appliqué wall quilt. Machine stitched, pieced and quilted.
Materials: Upper made from discharge and resist dyed Viscose, satin and silk fabrics. 100% cotton filling and backing.
Display requirements: 1 wall space required - basic hanging from a batten.

Bethan Ash
Bethan Ash is a British textile artist, living and working in Neath, South Wales. She is a professional quilt maker and teacher, with a background in fashion design. She has exhibited widely and her work has been bought by museums, in the UK and the USA, including the Museum of Arts and Design, in New York. She is a member of the prestigious International Quilt Art Group. Her work is strongly influenced by social and political culture and she is inspired by urban and natural forms. Mixing a combination of social issues and abstract ideas, Bethan fuses fabrics to make a collage, which is liberating for its freedom and color expression.
