About the Item
2024 I – 2 is a unique textile (double weave, handwoven cotton stretched on frame) artwork by contemporary artist Christiane Maurer, dimensions are 112 × 53 cm (44.1 × 20.9 in). The artwork is signed, sold unframed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Christiane Maurer’s hand-woven works, crafted on a loom, explore the interplay of colours through abstraction, using simple geometric patterns with intersecting coloured lines. Each series unveils unique combinations of colours and motifs, ranging from vibrant to delicate tones that shift with the lighting and the viewer’s perspective.
Christiane Maurer’s creative process blends traditional weaving skills with digital techniques. She begins by designing colour studies on the computer, then translates them into weaving drafts, specifying each warp and weft thread’s colour. Once the loom is meticulously prepared with the exact sequence of threads, she begins double weaving. The finished piece is stretched on a wooden frame like a canvas. This intricate, precise process demands deep focus and often takes several months from concept to completion.

“I see my weaves as steps further and further on in my colour exploration. […] This exploring of colours, what they are doing to each other and how they interact with each other, that is an intriguing process and the motivation for my artwork.” Christiane Maurer's abstract works explore how we perceive and interact with colour. Created through a process that combines traditional skills and digital methods, they reveal changing nuances and subtle iridescence according to the light in their environment and the movement of the viewer. Textile artist Christian Maurer draws inspiration from two sources: first, nature, perhaps the texture of a tree trunk, the changing light on a beach, or the ripples on the surface of the water. The second is emotions, particularly those aroused by a specific colour. From the inspiration comes the idea, and then the main part of the creation begins: using a graphic design program on the computer, the textile artist creates several colour studies to transform her idea into a tangible design. The idea takes shape in a digital 'key piece' that brings a series to life. The other pieces in the series are developed as variations on this one, exploring further colour combinations and gradations.
