About the Item

Cocteau's Postcard is a PASs.d.n. l. Autograph Postcard Signed, and written by Jean Cocteau (1889 -1963) addressed to the Countess Anna Laetitia Pecci-Blunt. In French. Without postmarks or date, likely datable around 1953. Sent from Neaples. Perfect conditions, with red ink erasures concerning the shipping address. This is a confidential greeting postcard to the countess “trés Chere Mimì”, in which the French writer confesses "Comme j'aurai été heureux de vous embrasser dans votre ville". With touching words, this is a real religious relic for the Jean Cocteau connaisseurs! The background: From the established reputation and the creativity without rest, Jean Cocteau was obviously under stress: he traveled to Greece and Spain, took charge of Cannes Festival in 1953 and 1954, in the same years he published two poetry collection, “La Corrida du lermai” which was inspired from his second journey to Spain, and “Clair-Obscur”. This artwork is shipped from Italy. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago by an artist who has died requires a licence for export regardless of the work’s market price. The shipping may require additional handling days to require the licence according to the final destination of the artwork.
