About the Item
Katie Yaquinto says of her work…
My practice is rooted in identity and transformation. Working primarily with found and repurposed textiles, I assemble fragments into large, patchworked compositions. I see this material as both my medium and my metaphor. The process of assembling these fragments into a larger piece reflects how our identities are formed: layered, evolving, and shaped by experience. I see the patchwork technique not just as a visual or material choice, but as a symbolic one. Just as our sense of self is informed by experience, each scrap I use brings its own presence into the work, contributing to a larger whole.
My background in fashion design and merchandising influences my relationship with textiles and my interest in how materials communicate. I’m drawn to the ways we express identity through what we wear, how we decorate our homes, and the objects we surround ourselves with. These decisions become our visual language. In my work, I reflect on how we curate and construct identity not just internally, but in the world around us.
