There is a field near artist Onelio Marrero's home that affords a spacious view of the eastern skies. Onelio often jogs along the road adjacent to this field as the sun rises. "As I passed this field on the morning of the winter solstice, the landscape was snow-covered and the sunrise was spectacular," he says. "I began this painting soon after that event. I imagined what it would be like to await the dawn with a bonfire, so I placed myself alone in the field awaiting the dawn."
About the Artist
Onelio Marrero paints city scenes of everyday life. In an impressionistic style he captures the romanticism of New York City, the picturesque fountains in Central Park and the wet city streets after a rainy afternoon. His use of warm tones creates a sense of nostalgia and the feeling that you have visited or seen this particular scene before. Onelio will often paint from direct observation, or he will work from a combination of photographs and combine numerous sources into one piece.
