About the Item

A golden serpentine dragon with feathered wings encircles a shallow bowl with mottled blue, pink, and orange glazing. Polished gold glaze on head and tail. This form was part of the collection selected for the 1900 Exposition Universelle (World’s Fair) held in Paris. Stamped Amphora in the base, and numbered. Published: Scott, "Ceramics from the House of Amphora 1890 - 1915", 2004, p. 105. Riessner, Stellmacher and Kessel (RStK), later known as Amphora, began producing luxury ceramic objects in Turn-Teplitz, Austria in 1892. With the help of well-established ceramicist Alfred Stellmacher, his son and sons-in-law established the Riessner, Stellmacher and Kessel factory, which would produce some of the most highly collected porcelain objects of the 20th century.
