Artist Sherri Aldawood posed her model, Alana, in her backyard garden on a warm summer day. She positioned in her the shade of dense green plants and glowing flowers, taking advantage of the soft dappled light falling across the scene. "My challenge for this painting was to maintain the feeling of a shady spot in the majority of the painting, while showing just a hint of sunlight coming through the trees," says Sherri.

Sherri Aldawood didn't intend to always paint flowers, but over time her love of gardens started to permeate her art. She focuses on the light and color of the flowers on the canvas. Sherri prefers alla prima, working with wet layers of paint instead of letting them dry. She keeps the paint as wet as possible by using walnut and clove oil to extend the drying time.
