About Dale Chisman and the Akhenaten Series
Dale Chisman, one of Colorado's leading abstract expressionist artists, created the Akhenaten Series to explore powerful themes of Egyptian history, spirituality, and love. Chisman's Akhenaten Series includes notable monotypes, such as Akhenaten's Dream 3, which was featured in his 2010 retrospective, Dale Chisman: In Retrospect.
Akhenaten, a revolutionary Egyptian pharaoh, is known for introducing monotheism, centered on the sun god Aten, disrupting Egypt's traditional polytheistic beliefs. The Marriage alludes to Akhenaten's famous union with Queen Nefertiti, his co-regent, who ruled beside him for most of his reign.
Chisman’s Artistic Legacy
Chisman received both his BFA and MFA from the University of Colorado at Boulder before spending 15 years in New York, where he gained recognition through gallery and museum exhibitions. Upon returning to Colorado, he became a pivotal figure in the local arts scene, helping to establish the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver. Throughout his career, Chisman continued to create innovative works that contributed greatly to the evolution of abstract expressionism in the American art landscape.

Dale Chisman
Dale Chisman graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a Master’s in Fine Arts degree. He lived and worked in New York between 1969–84. During this time, his work was displayed in several exhibitions, including one at the Brooklyn Museum. In 1985, Chisman returned to Colorado, where he continued to actively work and exhibit his art until he died in 2008.
