About the Item

MANUEL SALINAS Spanish, 1940 - 2021 UNTITLED signed "Salinas" (lower right) mixed media on paper on cardboard 19-3/4 x 27-1/2 inches (50 x 70 cm.) framed: 26-3/4 x 34-5/8 inches (68 x 88 cm.) PROVENANCE Private Collection, Madrid Manuel Salinas (Seville, 1940-2021) was a prominent Spanish abstract painter, whose artistic career left a deep mark on contemporary art. Born in Seville, he began his artistic career painting portraits and gardens, demonstrating an innate talent for painting from an early age. In the 1970s, Salinas moved away from figurative themes and delved into minimalist abstraction, an artistic movement that seeks to reduce compositional elements to a minimum, focusing on pure shapes and basic colors. This change marked a turning point in his career and allowed him to explore new forms of artistic expression. During this period, Salinas also played a crucial role in the cultural development of his hometown, promoting the M-11 Art Center, an experimental project that had a great influence on the artistic life of Seville. Throughout his life, Salinas participated in numerous exhibitions both nationally and internationally, consolidating his reputation as one of the main exponents of abstraction. His works, characterized by a bold use of color and free gestural technique, continue to be studied and admired for their ability to convey deep emotions through seemingly simple forms. Salinas passed away in 2021, leaving behind a significant artistic legacy. His contribution to abstract art and his influence on the Sevillian and Spanish cultural scene endure, and his work continues to inspire new generations of artists. He is remembered not only for his artistic achievements, but also for his dedication to exploration and innovation within contemporary art.
