In this lyrical abstract work by Montreal born Mel Davis organic shapes intersect in a playful composition. Using form and colour--blue, yellow, blush pink, black and snow-white Davis re-imagines the traditional landscape.
"I explore the space between what is familiar and what still can be mysterious. My work questions if we can find new and relevant areas of study in what is traditional.” – Mel Davis
She graduated from Concordia University with a BFA in 1998. A short study trip at the Slade School of Art in London was followed by a move to California where she acquired her MFA at the San Francisco Institute of Art. Davis still lives in the Bay area. Her work has been shown in both solo and group shows in Canada and the U.S.

To great effect, Mel Davis uses colour, shape and patterns to convey emotion in this abstract composition. The palette is dramatic—rich tones of blues, green, orange and burgundy. “My paintings investigate iconic themes in art such as landscape, the portrait, the interior. I am interested in how we as makers and viewers can find endless modes of description and emotional connection in these classical representations.” Mel Davis She was born in Montreal and graduated from Concordia University with a BFA in 1998. For over two decades, Dana Frankfort has explored the vexing periphery between language and sight by painting words.
