About the Item

abstract 40/40 40.0 x 40.0 x 3.0, 23.0 lbs Encaustic Paint Hand signed by artist Description: An orginial, contemporary minimalist painting by Michele Renée Ledoux. Ledoux uses encaustic techniques to create a textured composition reminscient of black tourmaline. Artist's Commentary: "This piece is the result of one of my favorite and oldest encaustic techniques. The result is a gorgeously organic textural layering of beeswax... each layer hand painted with a brush. The textures are endless and the black is a very rich, velvety, leathery black. Seemingly endless repetitive movements, this technique has become more of a meditative process for me. It represents abstract art and its relationship to meditation. And, while this is difficult to capture digitally, in person, this piece is dramatic and powerful, yet at the same time, meditative and peaceful. The organic wrap around the edges is my absolute favorite." About the Artist: Michele Renée Ledoux is best known for using fire + wax to create primarily black and white, contemporary abstract paintings using the ancient technique of encaustic, most known for its vibrant colors. The work has a heavy sculptural aspect, features uneven surfaces, cuts, cracks and chips; and often incorporates recycled material. The work is neutral in palette, architectural in style and organic in process and texture. Ledoux’s work is held in numerous private collections and has been widely exhibited nationally and internationally, garnering multiple “Best of Show” awards. Selected Exhibitions include: - Smithsonian Craft, Washington, D.C. - SOFA Chicago - Architectural Digest, NYC - Philadelphia Museum of Art

Kompromat No. 2
By Sally Smith
Located in Boston, MA
Artist Commentary: This minimalist oil painting is created with oil paint and charcoal made from Trump's "Art of the Deal" and Playboy magazines. The calmness belies the blackmail referred to in the title. Trace amounts of human urine are mixed with acrylic medium painted over the charcoal lines. This medium has not color or texture, but is a tool for making the charcoal adhere to the oil primed linen. Keywords: political art, small minimalist painting...
